Get Some Good Head
D.C., EAT — By changeup on September 19, 2010 at 7:53 pmThe art of brewing fine craft beer is a time honored tradition involving a chef’s eye for ingredients, the patience of a Buddhist monk, and the commitment of an alcoholic. At ChangeUp we think it’s great that there are suckers out there who do it so the rest of us can sit on our asses, eat burgers and enjoy the fruits of their labors. We’re especially thankful that the folks at Dogfish Head decided to open their brew pubs in the DC area.
The original brewpub and distillery was opened in Rehoboth, Delaware back in 1995. Since then they’ve expanded to include locations in Gaithersburg, Fairfax and Falls Church. In a country where it seems like new microbrews are appearing every day, Dogfish Head has consistently produced delicious, satisfying beers. So it’s no surprise that their restaurant would produce delicious, satisfying food…and that beer stuff too.
The house prepares their booze sponges over wood fed grills so odds are that whatever you order will have a great smoky flavor that’ll enhance the taste of your beer even more than that cigarette. And who are we kidding, the beer is why you’re there in the first place. Over a dozen beers on tap at any given time means that whether you’re in the mood for a hoptastic 60 minute IPA or a complex Raison D’Etre (the author’s current favorite), you’ll be able to find the beer that best compliments your meal. Or one that best compliments your drinking of more beers. Ask your friendly server or bartender which of their fine brews goes well with your steak and you’ll get an expert opinion on par with the sommeliers at a fancy French restaurant, or your local drug dealer in a back alley.
If you’re fine throwing back Natty Lites while eating soggy fries, maybe Dogfish Head Alehouse isn’t for you. Enjoy your crappy bar. We’re going to Dogfish Head Alehouse.
